The Global Youth Innovation Network-Gambia (GYIN) on
9TH November attended the launching of the State of the World
Population Report 2016 at the Kairaba Beach hotel in Kololi.
Organized by the UNFPA, the theme of the report was
‘10: How our common future depends on a girl at this pivotal age’.
Delivering her launching statement on the occasion, the
Vice President of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia, Aja Isatou Njie Saidy
said the Government under the leadership of President Yahya Jammeh has
applauded UNFPA and other partner institutions for the timely launching.
She called on all to join the bandwagon in this
global campaign to achieve the 2030 agenda, which aims to help transform the
futures of millions of 10-year-old girls who have traditionally been left
behind.
In the early childhood face of development, according
to the Gambia number 2, needs guidance and supervision from parents and care
givers as it is a vulnerable age to negotiate a situation to reach the
adolescent stage.
Kunle Adeniyi, the UNFPA chief of operations gave a
snapshot of the report, while hailing the Gambia for banning female genital
mutilation (FGM) and child marriage.
He added that more than the world’s 10 yrs old girls
are from Asia.
Other speakers on the occasion included the permanent
secretary at the office of the vice president, the minister for Basic and
secondary Education as well as the representative of the voice of the young.
The launching was accompanied by Exhibition of
reports and the Gambia Police Force band to play the National Anthem.
