Mosquitoes Are Enemies of Peace, Causes Economic Burden

NEWS BANJUL THE GAMBIA (MB)- Malaria is one of the most serious and complex health problem facing humanity in the 21st century, is making many African countries to spend billions on its health sector, as the disease is taking the lives of many. Malaria, is present in 102 countries of the world, I stand to be corrected. Malaria is mainly present in tropical and sub-tropical countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia and has made
many people to be poor, through spending on the disease to cure it.
Authentic figures indicated that malaria kills more than one million people each year mainly children under five years while 3000 people die from malaria each day and ten new cases are recorded in our heath facilities in less than every minute in life.   If figures revealed that about 40 percent of the world population and more than 80 percent of the population of Africa South of Sahara are at risk of malaria, then automatically, mosquitoes are enemies of peace and are causing economic burden in many parts of the world in which Africa is part and parcel.
Again records has shown that 90 percent of malaria deaths in world occurs in Africa, in which malaria kills an African child every 30 seconds. In addition, children and pregnant women remain highly vulnerable due to low immunity status.
Malaria has disastrous social consequences and is a heavy burden on economic development and in economic cost, Africa has been estimated to loss 12 billion dollars per year, which if converted to other development project, it would have been different.  Statics reports has it that, malaria accounts for 30 to 40 percent
of outpatient visits and 10 to 30 percent of all hospitals admission in developing countries. Malaria, again, is responsible for 15 to 25 percent of all deaths of children under the age of five years.
Going by records, malaria treatment accounts for 40 percent of Africa's public health expenditure, malaria obstructs travel, industrial activity commerce and tourism to many African countries, in which most of the countries rely on.
Malaria is classified as uncomplicated (simple) and severe (complicated) malaria. It's signs and symptoms can be: for one not able to drink or feed, not able to walk, sit or stand without help, loss of consciousness, fitting, vomiting everything that one eats, severe anaemia less than 5 g in children, low blood sugar etc.
One is also correct to say that malaria is both a cause and an effect of poverty, which is making many African countries to budget more for their citizens to live in a better life. So it is prudent for our governments to spend more on the health sector for their citizens to be productive and work for a better
nation. Wars and civil disorder has also favoured mosquitoes to migrate from place of origin to other as refugee population are moving from one region to another.
Many African countries also witness the endemic during raining seasons, in which mosquitoes can breed in dirty and stand by waters. Flood plains are also a contributing factor that favourable mosquito breeding sites. Population increase that is a number of people are at risk which create burden on health services.
Traveling also can be another factor that causes the importation of mosquitoes, that is population moving that are free from malaria are moving to malaria endemic areas.
Effect of malaria on pregnancy can be still birth, abortion, anemia, low babies, and death. Which all these, then it is incumbent on all governments, NGO'S that are promoting health issues or even individuals to assist communities to put up good soak away systems in births-room, removing or covering containers that may hold water and cutting grasses around houses that may serve as hiding places for
mosquitoes.
By doing so, the burden of malaria will be reduce and under five years and pregnant women will live longer life.
