Children Broacasting

NEWS BANJUL THE GAMBIA(MB)-Gambian children took over the airwaves of the national radio and télévision services and a number of the private commercial radio stations in célébration of the international childrren’s day of broadcasting.

The annual évent, which used to be observed in December under the instigation of the UNICEf, the UN children’s agency, now takes place worldwide on the first Sunday of March.
sThe agency organises the évent annually in collaboration with the international Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in New York.

In the Gambia radio and télévision listeners are being regaled to the voices of children who have taken the positions of the regular staff especially over GRTS to présent programmes, handle phone-ins and assemble and read the news.

Unique FM, a private commercial station in Banjul has combined efforts with Young People in the Media, is organising for broadcast an inter-generational dialogue forum right in front of the station along a major highway.

On this day, in accord with the objectives of the programme, the children express thoughts on their views, dreams, fears and challenges. Many of those speaking in the phone-in programmes made requests for d-js to play music for their parents and friends. They expressed delight in having the opportunity to go on air and speak to the nation.
